Gigging Frenzy
23 May 2008 13:32
The Elements' gigging schedule is looking much healthier at the moment. The band, in particular, cannot wait to get stuck into the Big Day Out on the 12th July on Parker's Piece, Cambridge. Big stage, lots of people - hopefully an opportunity for the band to be seen by a much wider audience than they're used to.
If you're from around Cambridge or are planning to go to the event (it's free!), then look out for the band on the main stage.
Some News At Last!
17 Jan 2008 15:54
After several months of little visible on-line activity (the band's been busy - honest!), lots of new things are afoot. After many, many hours of mixing and re-mixing before finally obtaining the advice of a professional, the music page has at last been updated with Martin's final mixes of four of the band's songs. Martin's PC now needs some time off after nearly a week-long stint of mixing, mixing, editing videos and mixing.
Furthermore, The Elements have been busy making some videos of live song performances for YouTube. They can be viewed either via the videos page or directly from YouTube. These videos present The Elements playing either acoustically or as a full band warts 'n' all with no overdubs. Have a listen and leave comments on YouTube, preferably if you like it.
Sunday 20th January 2008 marks a live performance from The Elements on Cambridge's Star FM (107.9). If you're in the Cambridge, UK area, listen out for the band.
The band also have a new keyboard player. More details soon.
Lastly, the website will shortly be receiving a total overhaul. It will move from this java-based server as will the development duties move from Martin to Alan. Partly to take load from Martin and partly because Alan's studying web design as part of his degree and is keen to flex his knowledge.
It's been a while but the ball is well and truly rolling now.
New Songs
30 Jul 2007 12:16
Two new songs have been released onto the site and on MySpace. Crash & Burn is a brand new version of an existing song and has been given a complete re-vamp. The Lying Game is the first song written collaboratively by the current line-up. A third song, Secret Agent will follow shortly as it's just awaiting a window of opportunity to mix it down before Martin goes away on honeymoon next week.
The existing back-catalogue will receive some attention in September as The Modern Escape has received a substantial face-lift (it's been removed from MySpace due to the 4-song limit there) and Alex will be re-recording all the guitar parts so he can put his stamp on the songs, bringing them stylistically in line with the new material.
Like their previous recordings, the songs have been recorded entirely by the band with Martin pushing the faders. Have a listen and let us know what you think.
Gigs, gigs gigs!
28 Jun 2007 11:18
Just like buses, you don't get any for a while and then four come along at once! Katie Parker & The Elements have confirmed four Gigs in London over the next few months. See the gig guide for more information. The venues will be two shows at Tommy Flynn's and one each at Leonard's and the Comedy Pub.
New Songs
22 Jun 2007 13:44
Whilst it's quiet on the gig front (mostly because Alex is on holiday - twice! - and Martin is getting married in August), Katie Parker & The Elements are recording two new songs this weekend. The two songs will be Secret Agent (a video of an acoustic version can be viewed on YouTube) and Lying Game which was performed for the first time at the Bedford Esquires gig a couple of months ago.
The guide tracks will be completed this weekend so Martin can get started on the drums and the song should be finished after Alex returns from holiday in a couple of weeks. Of course, they'll be available for free here once completed and mixed.
Is No News Good News?
24 May 2007 11:27
There's not been a lot to report at camp Elements recently. The band are still active rehearsing and songwriting but getting gigs - the bands' primary aim at the moment - has proved more problematic. Many venues now rely on promoters to schedule gigs and will not deal with bands directly. The promoters, unfortunately, seem to just ignore emails and telephone calls. The band have all the necessary promotional equipment, have the music and history to back it up, and, failing that, this website provides absolutely everything they need to know and hear. But it would appear that going to a URL is too much like hard work for some of them.
Nevertheless, The Elements will continue to seek gigs anywhere and everywhere they can. Of course, this could be read as sour grapes on the bands' part, but even a negative reply would be helpful rather than all attempts at contact disappearing into a void. It's just a shame the venues aren't aware how much the promoters are letting them down and perpetuating a bad image to the acts they rely on.
Capital FM Competition Result
20 Apr 2007 15:42
Katie Parker & The Elements have come second in Capital FM's competition to find a support band for Ghost and, according to the organisers, by the narrowest of margins. The winning band are Trail, so congratulations to them. Whilst it's disappointing not to have won, getting to the final in the first place is certainly something The Elements can be very proud of. Whilst it's always the winners that get noticed, the band have to be doing something right to have been picked in the first place.
A huge thank you to everyone who voted. You don't realise just how achingly close the band got to winning.
Vote Vote Vote!
14 Apr 2007 09:04
Under circumstances ranking way beyond the term 'out of the blue', Katie Parker & The Elements received an email yesterday confirming they are one of the four finalists in the Capital Radio contest to find a band to support Ghosts. Voting for the final will commence on Monday 16th April, finishing on Friday April 20th so there's not much time. The winning bands' gig with Ghosts will be streamed live on Capital FM's website. The Elements' profile (and new acoustic video) can be viewed here and please get voting (you don't need to register). And tell all your friends!
Please Welcome Alex Challans!
27 Mar 2007 17:45
After a long search, Katie Parker & The Elements have finally acquired a guitarist in the shape of Alex Challans. Alex's superb musicianship and mature playing style are a welcome addition to the band. See the about page for some more information. The band will update his profile as and when they find out more.
Rehearsing will commence in earnest in a couple of weeks after the Ladyfest concert this Thursday and when Alex returns from holiday in Morocco! The Ladyfest gig will feature the last appearance of Bern Reeve standing in on guitar. Many thanks Bern, the beer's in the post!
The Elements @ NME's Breaking Bands
19 Mar 2007 15:09
Katie Parker & The Elements have signed up to NME's Breaking Bands contest to win a chance to play at NME's 10th Birthday bash supporting headliners Kasabian. If you're a registered member of NME, you can vote for The Elements there. If you're not, sign up and vote! It also features a full, high-quality version of the EP track, Chaser. The bands' page can be found here. Wish The Elements luck and get voting!
The Modern Escape Is Released
25 Feb 2007 13:41
Katie Parker & The Elements are proud to announce the release of their debut EP, The Modern Escape. After a lengthy gestation period, the final mixes and versions have been committed and there's now no turning back.
Work will now commence on getting the physical CD and materials ready for promotional purposes. In the meantime, click the image for a sneak peek at the new EP cover.
As you can imagine, the band are very excited about this release and are gearing up to gig anywhere and everywhere. Their first two gigs will be in March at Anglia Ruskin University and The Portland Arms respectively. See gig guide above for more details.
But... The band still haven't got a full-time guitarist and many thanks must go to Bern Reeve for agreeing to stand in for these up-and-coming gigs. Furthermore, no bassists have come forward to take up Alan's mantle. If you fancy a pop at either role, click the link at the top of the page for more information.
The Wait Is Over!
23 Feb 2007 08:13
Katie Parker & The Elements announce the release of their EP, The Modern Escape, on Sunday 25th February 2007. All three tracks will be available through Indiestore from midnight, priced £0.79 (approx. ?1) each.
The EP features three songs: The Stealer, The Modern Escape and Chaser and all have been thoroughly re-edited and worked ready for this EP. The EP in CD form - complete with highly original and distinctive (and hopefully collectable
) cover design plus other bonus features - will become available within a couple of weeks.
Thank you for waiting so long for this. We believe the result is worth it.
The Elements Get Reviewed
18 Feb 2007 16:04
As I write this bit of news, we are currently standing at number 20 in this months Pop World Promotes unsigned band comp. This is mainly thanks to a review by the American band Gym Class Heroes as follows:
TRAVIS: Is she hot?
MATT: Sounds like Janis Joplin with rock 'n' roll. Janis Joplin meets Jet or something.
TRAVIS: I want her number [laughs]. You can really feel the throatiness.
MATT: It feels believable.
Earlier in the Year, we were also reviewed by Dirty Pretty Things who said this about us:
"Thursday, 11 May 2006 - 17:20 A return to good old fashioned 70's riff-addled rock - the singer really goes for it, and she's a good drummer to boot."
Please note: The 'She's a good drummer to boot' comment was made before our dear pal Martin joined the band and the track reviewed was My House which is in our back catalogue.
To buy the track or vote for us, go to Popworld Promotes.
The score gets zeroed every month but it would be cool to get into single figures.
Indie Store
18 Jan 2007 13:47
Katie Parker & The Elements have signed up to 7Digital's excellent Indiestore service in readiness of the release of our first EP. Two pre-launch songs have been made available, although they're currently only on pre-order so there is time for us to re-run a higher-quality mixdown for the purchased tracks and complete the third track. One of these tracks will be free. The songs are slated for release on 10th February.
The first 50 persons who order one or more songs via IndieStore will be contacted by us and sent a free copy of the full EP on CD (with sleeve, etc.).
Happy New Year from The Elements
3 Jan 2007 23:01
Katie Parker & The Elements would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. With many plans afoot, not least finally completing our EP, we hope to achieve much in 2007. Thank you for your support.
The Elements Go Mobile
17 Oct 2006 12:28
The Elements' website now contains mobile content specifically for PDA and Smartphone users. Although only featuring a small subset of the main website, it provides low-graphics pages specially formatted for the small-screen browsers found on PDAs and, in particular, mobile phones. The new section mirrors the news, gigs and music content from the main site allowing mobile users to download music direct to their handsets.
The mobile content can be viewed at http://www.the-elements.co.uk/mobile.
More information can be found here
The Elements Back On MySpace
1 Oct 2006 11:40
Katie Parker & The Elements' MySpace location has moved. We can now be found at www.myspace.com/ktpelements. Our old location at www.myspace.com/tantrarock will soon be disabled once we manage to inform our friends, etc., at that old location.
RSS Feed Live
19 Sep 2006 11:22
The site now features RSS 2.0 Feeds (Really Simple Syndication) for the news (this page) and blog pages allowing those of you who use RSS aggregators or sensible browsers like Firefox and Opera to use live bookmarks to see updates to the site as they happen. The currently-in-beta Internet Explorer 7 will also support RSS. I believe Netscape supports it as well, but quite why you'd want to use it when Firefox is infinitely better, I'll never know.
Apart from being a quite funky feature to have, it will form the basis of development for the planned podcasting and video streams. Over time, it may also be used for us to syndicate our content to other music websites and vice-versa, most likely via podcasts, although if we make friends with other bands that have sites with RSS, we will probably include their feeds here and vice-versa. Nothing beats a bit of mutual back-scratching.
We may also provide a live feed for our up-and-coming gigs, but until we're significantly busier gigging, there's not a lot of point.
Have fun, and let us know if it's not working properly. If you use Internet Explorer 6, you're missing out, so get a decent browser.
The feed can be found here
Whisky and Chaser
18 Sep 2006 21:25
Well not so much whisky, more Bailey's because that was all that was left in Martin's drinks cabinet. And Chaser - the first song of Katie Parker & The Elements' new album. It has been completed and a preliminary mixdown done. Only six more songs to go.
Chaser is available to listen to via the music page.
The songs The Modern Escape and Fever are next and between them will form a three-song EP due for release in October in time for our gig at The Watershed (see right). Enjoy.
And don't forget to let us know what you think of the song using the form on the music page.
Taking On The World
9 Sep 2006 21:33
Katie Parker & The Elements' all-new website is now live. After several months of development, we're ready to start filling it with content. From gigs to music to merchandise, all this will become available over the coming months. All that remains is to move the domain to point at this new site and we'll be raring to go.
Subscribers will gain access to downloads of our music as well as other content such as podcasts and videos. Most importantly, we're offering a free CD of our new 7-song album to our first 100 subscribers. The album isn't completed yet, but we'll send it on as soon as its ready.
